In Loving Memory of Lai Sok

Mr Lai Jee Wah, or fondly known as "Lai Sok", was one of our senior veteran staff at Nirvana.

I got to know Lai Sok from the day I started working with Nirvana, more than ten years ago. Back in the days, Lai Sok was our renowned Ceremonial Emcee, he used to conduct the funeral departure ceremonies in Mandarin, occasionally upon clients' request, would speak his native dialect, Hakka. I am one of the lucky ones to have witnessed the Chinese traditional funeral procession and prayer ceremony conducted by Lai Sok.  Nirvana has since evolved and is now presenting the funeral ceremony either in English or Mandarin, or specific dialect requested by the bereaved family, backed by a team of trained Masters of Ceremony.

Lai Sok was the Ceremonial Emcee in many of my cases, he travelled together with the team, covering local and outstation funerals too.  Often he will take cat-naps in the transport when his part of work was completed while waiting for the rest to wrap up. We often joked about everything under the sun, treating him as one our own family members.

At a later stage with Nirvana and due to age and health reasons, we saw Lai Sok being reassigned to a less physically demanding office based job at Nirvana Head Quarters. His loud and clear "Good Morning" would often be heard across the lobby whenever you enter the glass door.  To me, we would be exchanging our gestures in Hakka, and without fail, he will ask - Ngi Sit Bao Mang? "Have you eaten?".  Such was the kind and caring persona that will stay forever in our hearts.

Rest In Peace, Lai Sok.  You may be gone but you will never be forgotten.
